Can you Machine Wash a Down Comforter?

Okay, obviously I CAN wash it I'm just wondering what the odds are that it will ruin the blanket. I've had it for a while and it belonged to someone else before me, so the tag was long gone before I got it, and over the couple of years I've had it I've just used at home dry cleaning products on it. But this time of year my allergies go insane and since my cat sleeps with me I think it would be a good idea to wash it. Has anyone ever ruined a down comforter by machine washing it?

What's Wrong with my Hamster?

First, I noticed her eye watering. Not both, just one. Now, today, the side of her mouth and nose is swelling. I've been wiping her eye with a warm washcloth each night and it doesn't water anymore, it just looks...painful. I'm providing photos:

I've checked her teeth, they're normal, not overgrown. I thought at first that she was having an allergic reaction to her new bedding, but I replaced that with the old one (which is hypoallergenic). I don't think she has anything stuck in her cheek pouch, because they are a little further back than where the swelling is. At the same time, I don't think it's anything really serious because she's been like this for a week and if it were bad I don't think she really would have lasted this long. She's a really nice hamster, she hasn't shown more aggression since the problem.

She is:
-clicking her teeth
-snuffling around her cage (little sneezes)
-not using her wheel anymore
-doesn't seem interested in food but isn't appearing to get skinny
-still likes to eat the apple pieces i give her
-still drinking water

Any ideas as to what might be wrong?
Thank you Alan. I have been leaving her alone for the most part. I started to wipe her eye when I thought she might be suffering from allergies, and a hamster website I read said that it would be good for the eye. I'll stop now, though.

I have a question: is it okay to place a towel over the cage? My parents crank the air conditioner all day and I'm not sure there's anywhere where she'd be safe from the draft.

Also, should I give her something extra like torn up towel bits, or is her bedding enough to keep dry and warm? It's the eco-friendly "hypoallergenic" stuff (brown and zig-zaggy).

Im Having Trouble Breathing?

it has happened to me a couple times but it usually goes away, but this has been lasting for an hour. i dont know if i should be worried.

okay so i feel like i can't get a full breath of air. i feel a lot better if i yawn or take a large sigh. is this normal? im a healthy 13 year old girl. i USED to have asthma from birth (i think) till i was 5 or 6. it's gone now. it wasn't SUPER bad (i think). i used to breathe from my inhaler before bed and throughout the day. once, i had an asthma attack and had to be rushed to the emergency room. i think i was either 2 or 3.

also i have some allergies. im allergic to dogs but i have 2 hypoallergenic dogs and they have never bothered me except when i brush them their fur irritates my nose a little and i get a little itchy. it's nothing serious. im allergic to seafood too but there's none around me. im not allergic to any plants either.

will it go away and if it continues should i be concerned?

thanks

Itchy Skin, Help Please?

I have just moved my bedroom from one part of my house to another part of my house. Now while in my bedroom I get this annoying itchy feeling all over my body unless wrapped in tightly under my blankets. At 1st I thought maybe my cat brought fleas home or something but no one else that comes in my room is itching, besides me. It's getting real annoying now because I cant really get a good nights sleep unless Im wrapped up tightly under my comforter...that is uncomfortable as well because its summer here and its hot so blankets are not the best thing. I do have a past history of Hives/Allergies but I have not expeirenced hives in about 4 yrs. This is just so freakin annoying and makes sleeping in my bedroom so difficult. Anyone have any suggestions?

Having Lots of Nosebleeds?

I'm not the kind of person who gets nosebleeds a lot (before this year, I've only had one in my life and that was seven years ago), but in the last few months, I've had four. Something about this doesn't seem quite right to me. The first one happened only a few weeks after we moved into our new house; I was sitting there eating dinner when I got a nosebleed. Funny thing was, only the left side bled. A few weeks later, I woke up and my nose was running. I kinda just brushed it off until I looked in the mirror and saw that there was blood all over my face. I cleaned up and noticed that again, it was only bleeding out the left side. A few weeks later I woke up to find my face, pillow, top edge of my comforter, etc. covered with blood. Just last night, I woke up at 4 AM with a nosebleed. And, guess what, it was only the left side. Any ideas about why this could be happening? Could it have something to do with my new house? This hasn't been happening to any of my family. I thought it was allergies, so I got on some new allergy medicine (nasal spray and Claritin) but that didn't help. So I'm not sure what to do to make these nosebleeds stop, or what the cause of them is. Any help would be fantastic!

Cat Allergies, Bedding Options? Help!?

I moved in with my boyfriend who grew up with cats, but for some reason is suddenly allergic to mine. We put a sheet over the bed during the day so their fur doesn't get all over the comforter, and try not to let them get on the bed at night. I don't know what to do. I'm not getting rid of my cats I've had for ten years. But I feel just horrible about his allergies. He only has them at night, he thinks because of the bedding. Any suggestions??? Please help if you can. I'm not sure what to do.
I can keep them out off the bed for the most part, but not out of the bedroom. If I closed the door, they would scratch up the carpet until they got in. However, if no one is in the room, the door could be closed all day without problem. Before I moved in with him, they slept with me all the time. So, this really sucks. But I love him and am willing to make sacrifices to keep them off the bed, but what else can I really do?

How to Deal with Boyfriend's Hypochondriac Mother?

For a bit let than half the first year we dated, my bf defended his mother and disagreed with my thoughts on her "sicknesses". Second year - skeptical, and the third - definitely thinks she's faking it. She _always_ has some kind of ailment - sore feet that need to be rubbed, a headache that requires an icepack, a back ache, the chills. Yearround allergies. I think it's rediculous.
She grew up in the South with three sisters and moved up here (CT) after marrying her second husband. I feel like she's grasping for the attention - her husband is VERY independent, and her marriage is on the rocks. Her eldest son has been on his own for years and the other is going to college soon. Noone in her family spends much time with her(she pretty much wants the time spending to focus on her). The past few days she's 'had the chills' and today scared the crap out of us because she was shaking and had three Comforters on her. I reasoned that perhaps she was dehydrated, maybe this was real.
We gave her glasses of water and a phone. That morning, despite the past few days chills, she was perfectly fine, and as soon as we walked in, she dove into the theatrics - "I..I don't know, it was fine and then... suddenly got *shiver* s-so cooold.."

I think it's because of all that black and white TV she watches. It's the only thing she watches (besides the just-as-terrible Lifetime movies). She imitates it in daily conversation, in arguments, and especially when she's sick.
I'm also worried that she'll call all the time. Reguardless of where we're located. She's wearing herself SO thin- she's just nearly a year older than my mother, and she looks 10-15 years older than she is! I feel like the minor headaches she has _as a normal person_ get played up as an ailment.

How Can I have my Room Cleaned, And have Dust Removed So that I Won't Get Anymore Allergies?

Unfortunately, my hubby and I live with my in-laws. We have one room, but the door is closed the whole day. Since, when we go to work, hubbys mom and lil daughter stay home so I don't feel that it's a good idea to have my door open. I open the window so that fresh air can come in. I wash my comforter along with the blankets but yet I find myself waking up at 2am with allergies. I think its the room since its closed all day, but like i said I can't leave it open. Are there any products that I can use to clean the room? Thanks.
